Pre-race day

I realize I’ve talked about my upcoming race a lot in my blog posts. That day is nearly here! Today was a big rest and relaxation day, in addition to a day full of eating and drinking lots of water!!

I woke up early this morning and spent a few hours working on my computer (answering emails, updating this blog, etc.). Then it was time for breakfast! I had my new “usual” for breakfast (high fiber Trader Joe’s O’s with Honey Flax Cereal, blueberries, and almond milk).

Between breakfast and lunch, I continued to do work on the computer. Around noon, I went to the kitchen and prepared my lunch. I had plans to watch the consolation World Cup final (Brazil vs. Netherlands) with my friend, Derek and planned on bringing a packed lunch. My lunch consisted of a salad with a kale base, salmon, black rice, quinoa salad, pecans & walnuts, mozzarella cheese, and avocado. It was a power salad! I also made homemade popcorn with olive oil drizzled on top along with some spices, black pepper, and salt. Finally, I had a couple pieces of pasta filled with cheese and potato (very similar to gnocchi) and a dulce de leche cookie. I drank iced tea and plenty of water!

I was cheering for Brazil as they had a really rough game a few days ago. Unfortunately, the game did not end well for Brazil. During halftime, I finally saw all the goals that Germany scored against Brazil in the semi-finals. What a game. Once the game finished, we drove to Avila beach. It was such a gorgeous day to enjoy the beach!! There, we walked around for a while and admired the views. We also walked along the pier and took notice of the many fishermen that were out there! We also saw many pelicans and lots of small fish. Watching a pelican dive into the water is probably one of the cooler things to observe at the beach. I think I saw about 20 pelicans dive into the ocean!! I also saw a few spotted seals 🙂 We also found one of our friends, who works as a lifeguard at Avila Beach and hung out a while.

Eventually, it was time to eat! We went back to Derek’s house and I made myself some turkey and cheese wraps, gingersnaps, and drank an espresso drink (and more water!!) before heading home. My mom had prepared some delicious vegetables and when I came home I ate part two of my meal. I had portobello mushrooms, eggplant, multigrain chips, and a small cupful of a chicken and black rice. And WATER! There’s no doubt in my mind that I’ve eaten enough protein and carbohydrates to get me through the race tomorrow!

Since we have to get up very early tomorrow morning, I’m going to call it a night and head to bed! I’ve got a big day tomorrow 🙂 I really want to PR (get a personal record) in the race tomorrow. My last half-marathon was in October and I ran it in 1:40:40 (I ran about 7:37 min/mile). We will see how my legs feel tomorrow and if they are willing to run just as fast and hopefully faster. I’m slightly nervous because last time I had no expectations and just went for it, but this time I know what I am capable of running (I tend to be competitive with myself!!). No matter what happens tomorrow, the race should be a lot of fun 🙂 Wish me luck!!

Good night!
