Food Truck Festival

Good afternoon! I feel as though I’ve left you all hanging! Last night I was busy watching the olympic ceremonies and lost track of time when it came to posting. I ate a small-ish early dinner (around 5:30 pm). It was basically a more modified version of lunch. Spinach with parmesan cheese, chickpeas, four vegan meatballs (for some reason I don’t like meaty meatballs as much), and some broccoli. I also ate a small bread roll with a little peanut butter and honey.

Then […]I went to Lizzy’s house to hang out and get ready for opening ceremonies. I got hungry again around 7 pm and made myself a small bowl of oatmeal. I also made some homemade popcorn for all of us to eat during the ceremonies.

Finally, I ate a frozen banana mixed up in a blender with some chocolate for a chocolate banana dessert. We watched opening ceremonies until we saw the United States walk by. I am only so patient.

This morning I woke up and decided to go on a run! I tested out my running belt and the wrist and ankle weights. I was actually impressed with how much of a difference those weights make. They made the run so much harder. Even so, I still ran at a good pace (8:10 min per mile). I was not trying to run really fast because I was trying to use this run as a way to get rid of the lactic acid from my legs and help loosen up my hamstrings because they are so tight from lift yesterday!! I liked the running belt a lot. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to best place it so that it wouldn’t move much while running, but once I did, I forgot I was even wearing it! I decided to go running by the river but along a different part than I usually do because I wanted to check out where the Charles River Food Festival was going to be. I accidentally ran along the wrong side of the river to begin with, so I had to keep going for a while until I was able to find a bridge to cross in order to run along side the river where the food trucks were. I had only planned on running about 3 miles, but it ended up being a 4.4 mile run. All the food trucks looked great and I couldn’t wait to come back later.

Once I got back home, I got ready, ate the last of my blueberries as a quick breakfast, and bought a medium iced coffee before heading to the Food Truck Festival!

I went with one of my friends, Kevin, and we decided to bike there. When we arrived to where the trucks were, we locked up our bikes, and went to buy tickets. We bought 20 tickets for $25. Because there were so many trucks, we decided to walk by all the trucks before deciding what to spend our tickets on. We first passed by a Sabra truck giving away free samples of hummus and chips and naturally we stopped by and got some. They had four different toppings to add to the hummus (pine nuts, garlic, sun dried tomatoes, and roasted bell peppers). I added a little bit of everything to my hummus. It was delicious! I didn’t end up eating all of the chips and hummus because I wanted to save room for other food.

After seeing all the food trucks, we decided to start making some decisions. We headed to the Chubby Chickpea truck. I ordered the eggplant salad, and Kevin ordered falafel. I was really disappointed with how small the eggplant salad was. I finished it in two bites. The order of falafel came with 3 small falafel. Kevin and I had never had falafel before, and he really like it. So I decided I would also try one. I loved it! I decided to order my own falafels because I liked them so much.

Then, we walked over to the Compliments Food Truck where Kevin ordered a sirloin slider. The slider was tiny, but according to Kevin very good! It looked good =) Then we ran into someone who was giving away free samples of Lara bars (Jess’ favorite!) and got some for later.

Eventually, we decided we wanted something sweet. We decided to go to the Paris Creperie’s La Tour Eiffel truck where we ordered a Nutella crepe with strawberries. We split it. It was amazing!

Finally, we decided to have something refreshing. Kevin ordered a strawberry lemonade and I decided to get a fresh fruit popsicle from Culinary Cruisers. I got the watermelon blueberry flavor that had a hint of basil flavor to it. I knew I tasted something other than watermelon and blueberry while I was eating it, but it wasn’t until I finished the popsicle and took a good look at the ingredients that I realized that other flavor was basil. I wouldn’t really expect basil to be paired with watermelon, but I enjoyed it.

Afterwards, we biked back to school. I had never been to a food truck festival before and I really enjoyed myself. It was great to be out in the sun and spend time by the river. I definitely don’t do that enough!
