The past two days have really flown by. So much family time, so much relaxing and SO MUCH food. On Wednesday I woke up to my favorite breakfast of all time. OATMEAL. The rest of my family enjoyed crepes with nutella, cinnamon butter and fruit salad and sliced banana. I decided to put a bit of the fruit and sliced banana on my oatmeal. I also think that my oatmeal was made with a bit of vanilla extract which made it so good. The hint of vanilla really does a lot to the flavor. I have a confession: I put a bit of the nutella on my oatmeal. I knew that if I had put a lot of nutella in the oatmeal, I probably would have finished the entire thing but I was able to hold back and just have a little bit in this time. After we all ate breakfast we decided to go to the beach in Chilmark. I’ve noticed that a lot of the beaches on the vineyard are quite rocky, but this one wasn’t too bad. It was about a forty minute drive from our house and a fifteen minute wait for parking but once we got there we were pleased with what we saw. The beach was beautiful and definitely worth the wait! We stayed at the beach for about three hours which is really good for me! I can usually only take about an hour to an hour and a half at the beach for some reason. Less is from the west coast, so she loves the beach but I never really went to the beach when I was growing up. That’s probably why I am not too fond of the beach now a days. However, I really did enjoy myself this time. After the beach we went back home and got ready for dinner. I didn’t get to have a proper lunch because we were at the beach all day but I did snack on a leftover crepe with nutella before taking a shower. It was a good thing that I didn’t have those for breakfast because they are extremely addicting. Okay, so for dinner we had crab cakes! They were amazing, I think they were made with some form of cracker to bind them together but not sure. They had huge chunks of crab meat in them and were very flavorful. I enjoyed my crab cake with a few roasted tomatoes and corn on the cob. A great summer dinner.
This morning I woke up and knew that I had to get a run in. I wanted to sleep in on Wednesday to try and experience a vacation properly but who am I kidding, I need to run. Exercise just makes me feel great. I can’t go too many days without exercising. After my run this morning I checked the news and enjoyed a cup of coffee while breakfast was being made. We had pastries from Rickard’s Bakery (http://www.rickardsbakery.com/), scrambled eggs, and bacon. I treated myself to a strip of bacon, some scrambled eggs and a piece of 16 grain bread from the bakery. I have never had bread this good before. The outside was extremely crispy, the crust was perfect and the inside was chewy and soft. I also think that I was on my third cup of coffee while eating. I think I might have a caffeine addiction, or just a coffee addiction. I really do just love the taste of a fresh cup of coffee. The forecast this morning called for storms so we figured that after breakfast we would watch a movie while the storm passed but after watching Jumping the Broom we noticed that the rain wasn’t coming any time soon. So, we decided to head out to the lighthouse in town. Although it was pretty overcast, getting out of the house was nice and the walk to and from the lighthouse was very relaxing. When we got back from the lighthouse we all decided to go on a bike ride around the area. On the way back I suggested to my sister that we turn this bike ride into a “triathlon”. So we agreed that we would bike back to the house, run to the end of the block and back and the jump in the pool to do 10 laps. She struggled a bit but it was so fun! I’m going to try and get her to do another “triathlon” with me tomorrow morning :).
After getting showered we sat down for dinner. For an appetizer we had mussels. Mussels are one of my favorite foods! I know that Less isn’t a huge fan of seafood but I love it. The mussels were excellent. I really could have eaten the entire bowl but I decided to share. For our main meal we had filet mignon with a side of peppers and onions and a spinach salad with goat cheese, carrots, dried cranberries and a few walnuts. All so good! I don’t know how I am going to go back to eating like a college student on a budget after these meals. I better enjoy everything while I have it! So I think it is supposed to actually rain tomorrow, but we’ll see.
Don’t you hate when vacation goes by so quickly?
